About the ingredients:
Coconut oil is high in medium chain fatty acids or triglycerides, which keep skin smooth to the touch and retain the moisture content of skin. It also contains capric, caprylic and lauric acids, which are not very different from the medium chain fatty acids, but have strong disinfectant and antimicrobial properties. These help protect from microbial infections that can enter through the pores. The proteins in coconut oil contribute to cellular health and tissue repair; for any damaged cells on or near the skin, a healthy of flow of proteins guarantees their replacement at a normal rate.
Sunflower seed oil is used as a carrier oil and is rich in linoleic acid. These essential fatty acids can help maintain the skin barrier and decrease transepidermal water loss. They serve as a natural emollient for the skin, and can help to lock in moisture by forming a protective barrier. Several studies have also suggested that sunflower seed oil has anti-inflammatory properties. Linoleic acid is the major lipid that converts to arachidonic acid, which leads to prostaglandin E2, an inflammatory modulator.
Jojoba oil is a botanical extract of the seed of the jojoba tree. Technically it is not actually an oil, but what is called a wax ester. Out of all of the compounds in nature, this wax ester is the most similar to human skin oil (sebum). It helps to strengthen and bolster the skin’s cellular matrix and can help prevent the formation of deep wrinkles. Studies have shown that it inhibits the effects of UV exposure on collagen expression, which gives it its anti-aging reputation. It’s rich in vitamin E, zinc, iodine, and other nourishing antioxidants, and serves as a humectant that draws water to the skin and is readily absorbed.
Beeswax acts as an emulsifier and a surfactant to form protective barrier on the surface of the skin. This barrier provides a film of protection against irritants while still allowing the skin to breathe. The Mayo Clinic recommends using a lip balm that contains beeswax to reduce your chances of developing chapped lips.
Synthetic Mica is chosen for the shimmer and sparkle of this product because of the use of child labor in mica mines (over 75% of mica is mined with child labor) and the difficulty in tracing the supply chain. It is nature identical, biodegradable, plastic free and not harmful to watersheds.
Vitamin E oil is a powerful antioxidant. It is essential for healthy skin growth, repair of wear and tear on the skin, keeping skin smooth, protecting it and preventing premature aging. It is nourishing for all skin types and prolongs the shelf life of the product.
Ho wood, Cypress and Lavender essential oils are added for an ethereal scent.
