A couple of months ago, while I was moving, I came across a bottle of Aquage Sea Salt Texturizing Spray that I had stashed away. I’ve been using it ever since and loving it. My hair is SUPER straight and fine, but sea salt spray gives it body and beachy waves. Naturally, when I ran out this morning I thought, hey, I could make this for a fraction of the price without a bunch of nasty chemicals. So I did. To start, I just added sea salt to water (which works fine, but can be drying). After perusing the interwebs, I came across a few different recipes, this being my favorite. I tweaked it a bit to make it my own, so here ya go.
- 8 oz spray bottle
- 7 oz warm purified water
- 1 t fine sea salt
- 1/2 t conditioner
- 1 oz witch hazel
- 5 drops essential oil of your choice
The conditioner prevents the salt from drying your hair too much. Check out the benefits of different essential oils here, and use what suits your particular needs. I use a glass pyrex with a pour spout to mix the ingredients, then a funnel to pour the mixture into the bottle. Shake to combine, and that’s it! You should also shake before each use as the essential oils will separate.
Spray into damp hair and comb through. Scrunch while drying and you’ve got natural waves. Now get off the screen and get to the beach with that fine-ass hair!
